La Roque-Gageac is one of the Most Beautiful Villages of France.
You can visit the village and its Medieval sites, take boat trips up and down the Dordogne from the front of the village, and rent kayaks for leisure boating of the river.
The finest view of La Roque-Gageac is from the opposite bank of the Dordogne. One option is to rent a kayak and have a picnic lunch on the opposite bank, or drive around and out to the tiny village of St Julien.
History
Prehistoric:
The cliffs along the Dordogne were full of prehistoric occupation. Near La Roque-Gageac, there was the prehistoric grotto of Maldidier.
Gallo-Roman:
Gallo-Roman remains found at La Roque-Gageac include an aqueduct and a villa.
