Wherever you go, keep an eye out for the markets. Food, clothes, antiques, junk, treasures. Market day is the day every one comes to town. Check out the calendar of annual events to see what's going on about now.
For the monthly annual calenders:
(Translations: a fête is a festival, usually with eating, drinking, singing, dancing and often performances of some kind; variations are the fête champêtre - the village festival, and the fête patronale - a celebration of the local Saint's day.)
We've used the French names and titles for many of the events, to help you identify them when you're there (and for our French readers).
Towns with summer music festivals, such as Avignon, Cavaillon and Orange, have many more events than we can list here.
