This broom is spineless and grows as a thickly-branched shrub up to 2 m high, often in large groups.

Flowers. Dec-Apr.

Size. 2 m (v-tall)

Flower Blossom. 15-18 mm. Dark yellow flowers, 15-18mm long, grow singly or in groups of only 2-3. The upper petal of the flower is folded back sharply, and has thin reddish streaks at its base.

Leaves. The stalked trifoliate leaves are distinctive from most of the other brooms and gorse.

Habitat. Prefers dry acid soil; maquis, rocky fields, scrub and wooded areas. Our photos were taken in the Maures and the Esterel mountains along the coast.

Pod. Narrow, long (15-18 mm) and hairy.
