A branched, hairy perennial. More hairy on top than the Aquilegia vulgaris.

3-4 cm. Dark purple-violet. The flower has a clearly protuding stamen with yellow tips.

Hairless on the back sides.
Habitat.
Chalk soil. Forest clearings, brush, rocks. We found ours at 900 m altitude in a forest clearing near a river.
