A single (rarely 2-10) 4-petaled flowers on an erect stalk. This lovely Gentianella with "eyelashes" grows throughout the southern Alpes, up to 2200 m, but is quite rare. We photographed this one at 1800 m near Casterino.

Flower Blossom.
4 petals; 30-50 mm long. Four opposing petals, about 50 mm long, are bordered with long "lashes" that are partly curled, especially near the base.
Leaves.
Linear, along and clasping the stalk.
Habitat.
Forest clearings and dry fields in the lower Alpes. Likes calcaire soils.
