10 m. This deciduous tree is a native of the eastern Mediterranean, and is cultivated throughout the Beyond region. The thickly flowering springtime blossoms are striking, and very easily recognized.
The name derives from the tradition that Judas Iscariot hanged himself from this tree, and it blushes with shame every year.

The 20-mm pink flowers grow directly from the tree's trunk and branches. The flower has 3 erect upper petals and 2 larger lower petals.
Leaves.
The leaves are lime-green, almost circular or slightly heart-shaped ovals, 7-12 cm.
Habitat.
Gardens, rocky hillsides, woods and maquis.
