From 5 to 25 flowers grow in a loose , linear bunch at the top of the single stalk.

Size.
5-50 cm (low-short)
Flower Blossom.
Flowers in a rather loose oblong spike; speals and petals purplish-violet, pink, greenish or white, forming a close helmet. A pai of lateral sepals with prominent green, occasionally purple veins. The green-striped sepals extend laterally like "wings", and the broad lip is pale in the center, with dark spots.
Leaves.
A basal rosette of lance-shaped or sometimes oval leaves, with some thinner leaves clasping the stem. Leaves unspotted, stem leaves sheathing almost up to the flowers.
Habitat.
Grassy meadows, garrigue, maquis, open woodlands; likes calcareous soil.
