This small tree that originated in Asia is cultivated in southern Europe and now grows wild in parts of the Beyond area. The tree produces a roughly pear-shaped yellow fruit, about 3-4 cm, best used cooked or as a preserve. The tree is also used as a dwarfing stock for grafting pears.
Our photo shows a quince tree growing across the valley from Puget-Rostang, a small village of the Alpes-Maritimes.
Leaves.
The pointed-oval leaves are shiny and dark green on top, and pale and fuzzy beneath.
