This native of the western Mediterranean grows to about 50 cm, from a large bulb. Our photo was taken at the end of March, along the Brague river between Biot and Valbonne.
Flowers.

Flower Blossom.
The flowers grow in a dense conical racime of 20-100 blooms. The flowers have noticeable bracts; the lowest ones have long stalks while the upper are nearly stalkless.
Leaves.
6-10 linear, strap-shaped leaves, up to 60 cm long and 40 mm wide (broader than S. hyacinthoides; up to 50 cm high.
Habitat.
Waysides, woodlands and grassy areas.
