The Serratula is a short to medium plant with a single flowerhead on a thick, finely hairy stem. The one we photographed, in May on the Plateau de Caussols, was 15 cm high.

Flowers. Apr-June.

Size. 15-30 cm (short)

Flower Blossom. 30-40 mm. The pale purple flowerhead has all tubular florets, and the bracts are shiny with rigid spine-tips.

Leaves. The basal leaves are elliptical or oblong, with stems; ours measured 50 x 15 mm. Base leaves form a narrow wing along the stem.

Habitat. Dry stony and rocky areas.
