This tiny little violet grows throughout the region, but not at sea level, and is very fragrant. Cultivated versions can be white or red.

Flower Blossom.
15 mm across. The flower, which can be from dark violet to nearly white, is at the top of the stem, separated from the leaves. Those 15 mm petals are very small.
Leaves.
Heart-shaped oval, about 2 cm long.
Habitat.
Woods, dry bushy areas; damp and shady places.
