The Middle Ages, Medieval

From 476, the fall of the Roman Empire, to the late 15th century was a key period of development for the Beyond region. During this time, many of perched villages were created on hilltops, ridges and the rocky outcrops on the sides of the mountains. The locations were selected for protection, and the villages were fortified, with outer buildings forming a wall against possible invaders.

The Oc language (and Provençal) was developed during the Middle Ages.
