Provence Nature includes Mediterranean wildflowers and Alpine wildflowers; national parks from mountain (Mercantour) to marsh (Camargue); nesting golden eagles and bee-eaters; chamoix, sheep and wolves sharing the same space (with controversy).
The Provence of Beyond has a strip of Riviera, a few large towns, and tens of thousands of square kilometers of nature: forests, mountains, hills, canyons, rivers and lakes. If you travel just a brief half an hour beyond the busy beaches and coastal towns, you'll find lonely forested hills and steep mountain passes, deep gorges, water falls and clear mountain lakes. Even the hundreds of Provencal villages are closer to nature than "civilization", but still with their very civilized culture.
