The Beyond region has big beautiful lakes, large rivers, small beautiful mountain lakes, rushing mountain streams and wonderful fishing.

Rivers and lakes in the Alpes-de-Haute Provence (04) and the northern Var (83) have excellent trout and game-fish fishing.

The Alpes-Maritimes (06) has hundreds of mountain streams and rivers stocked with trout.

The Vaucluse (84) department has several rivers that are excellent for trout fishing.

The sites listed below include the main fishing sites in Beyond, grouped by departement and town or site.


Department 04 - Alpes-de-Haute-Provence


Castellane

Route Napoleon town at the foothills of the Alps, site of a Roman fort, with river kayaking on the Verdon upstream of Beyond's Grand Canyon Verdon Gorges. - About 60 km northwest (an hour and a half drive) from Cannes and Nice.

Verdon River Fishing

Between Castellan towards the Gorges du Verdon (to the Pont de Carajuan). This sectioin of the river is easily accessable, for trout fly-fishing.


Castillon Lake

This lake stretches about 15 km, from St. André-les-Alpes in the north to the southern end only a few km above Castellane.

Lake Fishing

Many types of fish, including arctic char (omble chevalier), pike (brochet), perch (perche), white fish, carp and trout (truite).


Esparron Lake

Fishing is mostly game fish: pike (brochet), perch (perche), white fish and some trout (truite).


Quinson Lake

Riez

Fishing Sites

There are trout-fishing rivers flowing through Riez and on to Allemagne-en-Provence and Gréoux-les-Bains. These are category-1, open for fishing from mid-march to mid-September.
The Durance river, northwest and north of Riez across the Plateau de Valensole [map] is a category-2 fishing river.
The Verdon river and the lakes (d'Esperron, de Quinson, de Ste Croix) south of Riez are good category-2 fishing sites.


Saint André-les-Alpes

L'Issole river flowing to St André from the north (along the D2 road) and the upper Verdon river flowing to St André from the northeast (along the D955 road). Both are good trout rivers, fast flowing and easily accessable.


Sainte Croix Lake

Lake Fishing

Many types of fish, including trout (truite), pike (brochet), pike-perch (sandre), black-bass, perch (perche), carp and white fish.


Verdon Gorges

River Fishing

The Gorges du Verdon is ideal for trout fly-fishing in a magnificent setting. Access is difficult and a guide is recommended.


Department 05 - Hautes-Alpes


Serre-Ponçon Lake

This lake is formed by a dam (the Barrage de Serre-Ponçon) on the Durance river, at the northern edge of the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence and the southern edge of the Haute-Alpes.

Department 06 - Alpes-Maritimes


Roquesteron-Grasse

River Fishing

The Esteron river flows eastward from Aiglun, via Sigale, Roquesteron, Pierrefeu, below Gilette and into the Var river [map].


Roya Valley

River Fishing

This beautiful valley has 25 mountain lakes and 130 km of rivers open for trout fishing. Check out the villages, above: Breil, la Brigue, Castérino, Fontan, Saorge and Tende.


Saint Martin-Vésubie

Fishing in the Boréon, and many other nearby mountain lakes and streams.


Department 83 - Var


Artuby River

River Fishing

The river is swift and quickly changing, northeast of Comps-sur-Artuby, southwest of La Martre. Good trout fishing; access difficult, a guide is recommended.


Saint Cassien Lake

Located at the northeastern edge of the Var, between Grasse and Fayence, about 10 km of lake stretches out through the hills.

Department 84 - Vaucluse


Auzon River

The Auzon river flows westward, passing Villes-sur-Auzon, Mormoiron and Mazan towards Carpentras.


Calavon-Coulon Rivers

The westward flowing Calavon river passes Apt, Pont Julien and Beaumettes in the Vaucluse,then joining with the Coulon on its way to Cavaillon.


Durance river

Briançon, Embrun, Lac de Serre-Ponçon) (04: Sisteron, Volonne) (84: Cavaillon, Avignon).
